Month: March 2017

Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell

I read Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell last year, and it was so good. Funny, charming, magical and utterly enjoyable – I highly recommend you check it  out if you like period pieces with a touch of magic. So of course, I illustrated some of the characters. I wanted to so pretty much all of them, but I narrowed it down to four for now. I may come back and do more later if I can find the time among everything else I’m trying to do!

After using gold for Opulent, I wanted to try it in some of my other illustrations and see if it could still work, and I think with these I succeeded with using it to add some magic to the pieces. I’m working on some illustrations for a couple of scenes and locations from the novel too, so look out for those next month.

Noveau Divine

noveau-divine

We are beyond the new rich now, the world is home to the new divine, with wealth enough to make themselves gods.

A response on Pop My Mind the theme of Opulence. One of the largest pieces I have ever made, and appropriately enough, is inspiring me to continue to work bigger and grander.

Daily Doodle Challenge: February

February’s theme was Romance! So I drew a bunch of couples doing cute things all month. Missed a few due to going on holiday and being tired, but I’m pretty pleased with what I did get done. And some of these were colouring practice with my new Cintiq – which, yes, I finally got one. I should review it somehow. It’s amazing.

In March I’m drawing superheroes, so make sure to follow my sketchblog to see those happen in mostly real-time.

Also! I have an instagram now! I’m flailingmuse on there, same as on twitter. I haven’t posted much yet, but I’m trying to be more proactive about throwing my art at the world via any and every channel, so there will be things there, I promise!
